"THE GHOST OF 007" is not a second-rate sequel to the screen-death of fictitious secret-agent James Bond; sadly, many real lives ended when the Soviets shot down Korean Airlines Flight 007 in 1983. You are also forgiven for any comparisons of the now familiar story of Flight 007 to the equally familiar plots of airport or disaster-movies: Off-course airliner from authoritarian, south-east asian nation - with right-wing US politician on-board - overflies remote and sensitive area of the Soviet Union during Soviet defence-systems test. Computerised guidance-systems, crew, ground-observers, a nearby US spy-plane and Soviet radio and visual warnings, all fail to deter KAL-007 from its false and dangerous course - with tragic consequences.
But "The Ghost of 007" is a different story, indeed a sequel, to the original tragedy. Shortly after the above events: our phantom is first seen over the Lebanese capital, Beirut, where it loses its way and leaves a trail of carnage in its wake before finally crash-landing on a tiny Carribean island - en-route some say to Managua, Nicaragua.
["The Ghost of 007" is not to be confused with the earlier "Spirit of '76"]
